Linda Nichols
 
Linda Nichols - Professor in Petroleum Accounting.

Linda Nichols joined the faculty of Texas Tech University in 1989 after completing a PhD in Accounting at Louisiana State University.  She currently holds the position of Professor and Director of Accounting Programs.  Her Association with the oil industry began in 1980 when she worked for an international accounting firm in Houston as part of the oil and gas industry audit division.  She later joined Columbia Gas Development, an exploration and production company, where she held the position of supervisor of budgeting and economics.  Linda continues to be heavily involved with the oil industry through consulting and providing training for oil companies across the globe.  In the past five years, she has provided industry training in Angola, Nigeria, Malaysia, Indonesia, Chine, Thailand, Hungary, the United Kingdom, Australia, and in the United States of America.  Linda is co-author of a textbook in the field, Fundamentals of Oil and Gas Accounting,  published by PennWell.  She also serves as Associate Editor of the Oil, Gas and Energy Management Journal.  She was recently chosen to serve as guest editor of an upcoming special energy industry edition of the International Journal of Accounting, Auditing and Performance Evaluation.  Linda has published numerous articles dealing with issues of accounting for the oil industry.

Since joining Texas Tech University, Linda has received both national and international recognition for her accomplishments.  In 1999, she was chosen as Outstanding Educator of the Year by the American Woman's Society of CPAs.  In 2003, she was chosen by the Fulbright Commission of the U.S. in conjunction with the government of Austria to serve as the Johannes-Kepler Distinguished Chair in International Business.  Linda's service to the accounting profession includes a term as chair of the Financial Accounting and Reporting Committee of the AICPA which prepares the financial accounting and reporting section of the CPA examination.  She also served as President of the South Plains Chapter of the Texas Society of Certified Public Accountants (TSCPA), and currently serves as a trustee of the Educational Foundation of the TSCPA.
